How to Occupy Your Kids During “Take Your Child to Work Day”

2/4/2019 (Permalink)

Paris gets a taste of coming to work with her mommy.

Children add so much joy and laughter to our lives. We love to spend quality time teaching our children to one day have the same great work ethic that we have. “Take Your Child to Work Day” allows for parents to show their children what a day is like in the life of a “grown up”. They are given an opportunity to help their parents by labeling file folders, shredding papers and putting things in alphabetical order. But when parents must get some work done in the midst of the fun, what can you do?

SERVPRO® of Pompano Beach has put together some creative ways to help our kids pass the time at work.

Kids Day Kit

A good “workday” kit includes some of the following items:

  • Crayons or markers
  • Construction Paper
  • Glue
  • Blunt Scissors (for older kids)
  • Coloring Books
  • Play-Doh®
  • And if all else fails…an iPad LOL

Large Cardboard Box

Here at SERVPRO® of Pompano Beach, when you add a cardboard box to a group of kids, imaginations soar! The cardboard boxes are customarily used for customer pack outs, but for a kid, it allows them to create all sorts of things. There are so many things you can create with a large cardboard box. A house, a fort, a castle or a boat are just a few different ideas that can take up lots of time. Make sure that any cutting out of windows or doors is done by an adult, though.

Snacks

Nothing helps ease some boredom better than snack time. Crackers, chips and juice give the kids just the pick-me-up they need after that hard day of working with mom or dad. It helps boost morale when the troops are getting restless.

Take a Break

Sometimes you may even want to get in on the action and take a break from the humdrum of work. Color a picture or watch a show on your iPad with your child. Because time goes by so quickly, spending this type of quality time with your child is essential for their overall mental health and well-being.

Enjoy Yourself

These moments don’t come by often so take this time to just enjoy the company of your child. Let them see some of the things you do at work so that even conversations at home become more relatable when you talk about how your day was. Kids love being with their parents and it’s moments like this that you will grow to treasure as they grow older.
